David Easson has a look at week 2 of League One, and with the bonus having seen all the sides play at least once, there’s some big betting pointers for the weekend.
We start with Sunday’s match - Bolton v Wrexham. Now with Wrexham I did wonder if this was a consolidation year, that they would take time to work things out, maybe skirt with the bottom 4 and then finish nicely mid-table but oh no, here we go again. Two matches this week – 11 goals. So it’s a very basic over on the goals shout against a Bolton side who got themselves a decent away win at Leyton Orient last week and then had 19 shots against Mansfield in midweek, conceded a late equaliser but still went through to the 2nd round of the League Cup on penalties. Bolton have gone over 2.5 goals in four of their last five league games whilst Wrexham just love a goal.
20/23 for over 2.5 goals in Bolton v Wrexham
Back to Saturday and it’s Nigel Clough’s Mansfield against his old side Burton. One on the way up, the other heading the other way. Mansfield opened up with a brilliant away win at Barnsley and took Bolton to penalties in midweek before losing the shootout. Clough’s side were excellent at home last season and I’m expecting a very good start to home life here in League One. 4/5 for the Stags to win.
Early leaders Huddersfield shook off any doubts I had about them with a great start to life in League One after relegation. A 2-0 away win at Peterborough was followed up by a 3-0 home win over Morecambe in the League Cup. There’s goals and early defensive solidity back at the John Smith’s and we’ve not seen that for a few seasons now. Stevenage beat Shrewsbury on day one and got involved in a 4-3 ding dong at Norwich in midweek, but I’ll take the Terriers to win to nil at 9/5
Bolton v Wrexham over 2.5 goals at 20/23
Mansfield to beat Burton at 4/5
Huddersfield to win to nil against Stevenage at 9/5
That is an 8.42/1 treble
