After a wait of 4 weeks between races in Singapore to Texas, we now have wait of just 7 days to the Mexico Grand Prix.

If we look back at the US Grand Prix, you will acknowledge that it was a main race dominated by Ferrari. Both Leclerc and Sainz took the lead on the first bend of the first lap and Leclerc was off and away. Indeed, because of the tussle between Verstappen and Norris, nothing was really seen of the race winner.

Charles Leclerc

And if we look ahead to Mexico, the 11/4 at Betfred for Leclerc to win the race seems good value. He qualified pole for last years race in Mexico City but did finish 3rd. I think he has the confidence, and the car, to cross the line first.

Max Verstappen

Verstappen was back near to his best in Texas last week, his defending against the faster McLaren of Norris was just exquisite. He is tempting to win the race at 7/2 at Ladbrokes, but my concern is the race pace required to beat the Ferraris and McLarens. The Red Bull is fast over 1 lap, but will it be consistently fast over the 71 laps? I’m not convinced.

That is why I am tipping Verstappen to be fastest qualifier at 3/1 at William Hill. Leclerc is also a play at 3/1 in most places.

Pierre Gasly

We had some success last week with the “to finish in the points” market with Colapinto and Hulkenberg both landing us some good bets. Hulkenberg, who is in great form, is now odds on to finish in the top 10 but his teammate, Magnussen, is 5/2 in most places to finish in the points and that is tempting. The Haas is a car that is delivering good pace right now.

But, here are my two picks. I am a huge fan of Franco Colapinto, he was superb at the US Grand Prix last weekend with his tyre management, especially in his first stint, and he is a definite play to finish in the points at 7/4 at Ladbrokes and here is a bit of a leftfield shout, but I fancy Gasly in the Alpine to finish in the top 10. The Alpine has not got the most powerful unit on the grid, but the Mexico Grand Prix a high altitude circuit and they may help the French team, who delivered in qualifying last weekend in Texas but fell down the pack during the race. I’m tipping a better race performance for Gasly. He’s 5/1 at Paddy Power to finish in the top 10. I’m playing that.

The Alpines last year in Mexico finished 10th and 11th.

Good luck with your bets and please gamble responsibly.
