Al Ross leaves his love of York City to one side to focus on the value further down the table in the National League this weekend...

There are some short odds around the National League title contenders this weekend; ignore those. If you’d have backed the top 5 all to win in their last five games, you’ll have only landed 9 times in 25.
In fact, I'm happily going against leaders Forest Green Rovers at Altrincham where the home side are 17/10. The other 2 sides in the titile race have both been to Altrincham in recent months – York in the League, Barnet in the FA Trophy – and Altrincham won 3-0 and 3-1 in those fixtures. They’re unbeaten at home in 14 matches in League and Trophy. You may want to look at Altrincham double chance or Draw No Bet for an acca, but 17/10 is a good single outright price.
The absolute pick of the odds has to be in the basement clash between Fylde and Wealdstone. There have been 18 goals in Fylde’s last 4 games – Scored 5, conceded 13. An average of 4.5 goals a game. Both teams to score landed in all of them. Meanwhile, a 3-0 win over Dagenham and Redbridge is the only time Wealdstone haven’t seen goals at both ends in a League or Trophy match in 7 games. Scored 13, condeded 15, an average of 4 goals a game. Why both sides are odds against to score more than 1 goal, and why over 2.5 goals is 8/11 I’ve no idea. I’m taking over 3.5 goals at 9/5.
To complete a treble, I’ll back Oldham at a big price of 9/5 to win at Gateshead. Two teams who’ve had outside ambitions of the title ruined in recent weeks. It's another standard Gateshead season. Bring in lots of loan players, do well, lose them in January, lose momentum. 0 wins, 1 draw, 3 defeats, so far in 2025. At the time of writing, Altrincham, Oldham and my nap of over 3.5 goals in the Fylde game was a 20/1 treble at 888.com
