MITOMA CAN BOOST BRIGHTON

We’ll start on the south coast where Brighton host Manchester United in the early 12.30pm kick-off. Both sides started out with a win although Brighton’s 3-0 success at Everton - which puts them top of the table just to say - was far more impressive than United’s narrow 1-0 win over Fulham.

Brighton have an excellent recent record in this fixture, winning four of the last five Premier League meetings. True, United won at the Amex last year but that May fixture came at a time when Brighton were rather tailing off under Roberto De Zerbi.

Fabian Huerzeler - a German man of just 31 years of age - has given them new life it seems and Brighton have a recent habit of starting the season well.

Brighton at 6/4 is just a little skinny though as I think United have a bit more resilience about them looking at their performance against Fulham and versus Manchester City in the Community Shield.

So I’m going to have a punt on Kaoru Mitoma scoring anytime at 7/2. United will hate the fit-again Japanese star running at them and Mitoma looks raring to go again after his injury troubles last season.

HAALAND TO SET CITY ON THEIR WAY

Manchester City v Ipswich at the Etihad at 3pm on Saturday will have fantasy managers loading up on City players.

Ipswich did well for 45 minutes against Liverpool but the Reds rather ran through them in the second half and it’s pretty tough on Ipswich to have to follow that 2-0 loss with a trip to the champions and title favourites.

It could be a case of guess the scoreline - 4-0 is 15/2 and 5-0 12/1 if you’re interested - but I’m going to keep it simple and back Erling Haaland to score the first goal, just as he did last week in City’s 2-0 win at Chelsea.

The Norwegian is fresher than most after sitting out the Euros and 9/4 on him netting first is just fine. He’s 15/2 for a hat-trick if you want to be more ambitious.

HOWE TO TAKE POINT AT FORMER CLUB

Onto Sunday, let’s have a day trip to the south coast where Bournemouth host Newcastle. Now, Bournemouth took four points off Newcastle last season winning this corresponding fixture 2-0 and making it a miserable return for their former boss Eddie Howe.

It’s tempting to back them again at 21/10 but there’s an obvious difference between this season and last and that’s Dominic Solanke. The striker scored three of Bournemouth’s four goals against Newcastle last season, including both in this fixture, but of course he’s gone now, the frontman making a summer move to Spurs.

Still, Bournemouth have other options up front and did well to come back and take a point at Nottingham Forest in their season opener last weekend.

Newcastle showed great mettle and determination to grind out a 1-0 win over Southampton on opening weekend after Fabian Schar’s red card but they were on the back foot even before being reduced to 10 men. Southampton won the shot count 19-3.

Howe will be determined to avoid a repeat of last year’s defeat and, with no Solanke to face, I’m going to get him to come away with a point. Back the Draw at 29/10

DAVE'S BEST BETS FOR MATCHDAY 2

So, my selections are Mitoma to score anytime at 7/2, Erling Haaland to score first v Ipswich at 9/4 and a Bournemouth v Newcastle Draw at 29/10.

It pays a massive 55/1. It’s worth noting that if you choose to play them as three singles, a win for just one of those would put you in profit.

Good luck, and whatever bets you make, please gamble responsibly. top of the table just to say - was far more impressive than United’s narrow 1-0 win over Fulham.
