James Buttler looks ahead to Saturday's matches in the Premier League and picks out the best bets with a treble.
Tottenham v Newcastle
The pressure is mounting on Ange Postecoglu at Tottenham as a they ended 2024 with a 2-2 draw at home to Wolves to begin 2025 in 11th in the Premier League. Injuries are not helping Spurs, particularly in defence and a once impregnable home record has now seen just one win and three defeats in their last seven at The London Stadium.
Newcastle are on a five game run of wins in all competitions and comfortably beat Man Utd 2-0 at Old Trafford last time out to mean they’ve won their last four league matches ‘to nil’. Alexander Isak is on a hot streak of eight goals in six matches and he’s scored in three of his last four matches against Spurs. We picked up a 4.5/1 success with Isak scoring in that win over Man Utd and with goals expected in this match on Saturday I’m playing Isak to score in a Newcastle win again, this time at a slightly skinnier 3.61/1, but it’s still a decent enough price.
Bournemouth v Everton
Bournemouth drew 2-2 at Fulham and the Cherries are now unbeaten in seven, including four wins and they host an Everton side that they’ve beaten in their last four meetings at The Vitality Stadium. Andoni Iraola is doing an amazing job on the south coast and European football is a distinct possibility next season.
Everton lost 2-0 at home to Forest on Sunday to halt an unbeaten run of four games, but with only one win in 10 they are still far too close to the relegation zone for comfort.
The Toffees, with only 31, were the lowest Premier League scorers in 2024 and a Bournemouth win ‘to nil’ looks like a solid betting route into this one. That price of 9/4 is available with SkyBet.
Manchester City v West Ham
Man City’s 2-0 win over Leicester might just give Pep’s side enough confidence to start 2025 far stronger than they finished 2024. But City still weren’t at their best against the Foxes but they have beaten West Ham in 14 of their last 15 meetings. City have only won one of their last four home matches and conceded seven goals in that run. It’s been a highly unexpected slump.
West Ham arrive in Manchester after being drubbed 5-0 at home to Liverpool and manager Julen Lopetegui remains the bookies favourite to be the next Premier League boss to face the axe. It hasn’t helped that The Hammers have conceded 79 league goals in 2024, the worst of any side that’s been ever-present in the top tier.
Erling Haaland found the net to end a three-game drought, which was also a massive positive and he has seven in five matches against West Ham. So, a City win looks likely, Haaland to score anytime and over 2.5 match goals can be factored in to reach a price of 1.47/1 with SkyBet.
James’ Premier League Treble
If you put all three selections into a treble it comes to 38/1.
