Dave Tindall looks ahead to Sunday's Premier League action and picks out the best bets for the games at Spurs and Manchester United.
Tottenham v Aston Villa
Tottenham hammered Aston Villa 4-0 at Villa Park the last time these two met in March 2024.
That was revenge for a 2-1 win for Unai Emery’s team at Spurs and, in fact, Villa have won three of their last four at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
In addition, Villa have been strong on the road this season with three wins and a draw from their four matches so, on first glance, the 11/4 for an away win looks tempting.
That said, Spurs will be on a high after knocking Manchester City out of the Carabao Cup in midweek and they’ve also won three of their four home games in the Premier League this term.
This could be a fascinating showdown between Ange and Unai and I’m going to play The Draw at 3/1.
It’ll surely be a scoring draw so we have a couple of goalscorer bets that make appeal.
First, Brennan Johnson netted the last time this pair met and he’s been in great goalscoring form this season. Try him for an anytime goal at 13/5.
For Villa, Ollie Watkins has scored in his last two away Premier League fixtures and can register again at 19/10.
Manchester United v Chelsea
It’s all change at Manchester United where Ruben Amorim has been announced as new head coach.
But the Portuguese will have to wait to take charge so stand-in boss Ruud van Nistelrooy gets another chance to put smiles on faces after he guided United to a 5-2 Carabao Cup victory over Leicester.
A home game against Chelsea will be a much tougher test though and, even against Leicester, United looked open at the back.
Chelsea have been really good on the road this season and in Cole Palmer and Nicolas Jackson they have players who can punish United’s unconvincing backline.
United certainly looked more potent in attack in their first game without Erik ten Hag and could get among the goals again as Chelsea’s defence doesn’t exactly inspire confidence either.
This definitely has the feel of a ‘Desmond’ so back the 2-2 scoreline at 11/1.
Looking at some side markets, Cole Palmer to assist at 3/1 takes the eye, as does Nicolas Jackson to score at 2/1.
For United, Bruno Fernandes looks happier already following Ten Hag’s exit so back him for a goal at 13/5
Finally, I’ll back the Draw double in both Sunday games. That works out at around 14/1.
