After landing a 36/1 treble the last round of Premier League matches, James Buttler looks ahead to Wednesday's matches and picks out a 10.65/1 treble.
Everton v Aston Villa
Everton hosting Villa has to be in contention for the toughest match of the season to predict. Villa on the road have become incredibly beatable, not their aim, with five straight league defeats, albeit four of them against sides in the top five. They play an Everton side that is certainly not in that top five and boast one win in their last 11 league games – again not their aim.
So how on earth do you bet on this one? Well, you certainly don’t have to, always gamble responsibly, but if I was to pick a punt here, I’d opt to play unders on the goals. Only one of Everton’s last six home matches has gone over 2.5 match goals and Villa have totalled two goals in their last five away trips. Under 2.5 match goals is 3/4 and worth a look. That’s the price that goes into my Wednesday treble, but in all honesty it’s a match I’m avoiding with my own money, so why would I expect you to do any different? I don’t, but if you do, good luck and gamble responsibly.
Newcastle v Wolves
If you take the form table in the Premier League over the last five matches, Newcastle are top of the league. Over the season they’re in fifth and have raced around the Christmas bend and hit the home straight in great form. They host a Wolves side that have enjoyed a bit of a new manager bounce under Vitor Pereira with seven points gained in their last 12, but Newcastle should win this one and why change a bet that has brought plenty of reward in recent weeks?
Aleksander Isak has scored nine goals in the Toon Army’s last seven league matches and notched at least once in each game. Some may suggest that a player experiencing a lean streak is due one and worth backing. I much prefer to back a player and team in form and Isak and Newcastle tick both boxes. A Newcastle win including an Isak goal is 1.45/1 with Bet365.
Arsenal v Tottenham
The 197th North London derby sees an Arsenal side that are unbeaten in their last 12 home league games taking on a Spurs side that have taken just one point from the last 12 available in the Premier League.
Yes, I know form can go out of the window in derbies, but Spurs are unlikely to give their fans in north London the bragging rights in their respective workplaces on Thursday morning.
Second-placed Arsenal win this one and condemn a Spurs side in 12th spot to some geographical misery. The Gunners haven’t conceded a goal in their last four home wins and an Arsenal win ‘to nil’ is 9/5. That’s a price I like and it’s going into my Wednesday treble.
