10 Boris Becker Wins as a 17-Year-Old (1985)


Boris Becker became the youngest men's singles champion in history, winning the title aged only 17. He was also the first unseeded player to win the tournament, showcasing his fearless serve-and-volley style. Diving around at the net on the volley, the German became an overnight star.


9 Andy Murray Ends Britain’s Drought (2013)


Scotland's Andy Murray became the first British man in 77 years to win the Men's Wimbledon singles. He defeated Novak Djokovic in straight sets in the final. The emotional victory ended decades of heartbreak for British tennis fans and was a triumph over an intense weight of expectation.

8 Rafael Nadal vs. Roger Federer – The Greatest Match Ever (2008)


Widely regarded as the greatest match in tennis history, Rafa Nadal defeated Roger Federer in an epic five-set battle.


The Spaniard triumphed 6-4, 6-4, 6-7, 6-7, 9-7. The match lasted nearly five hours and the final shot was hit with the last glimpse of daylight fading fast.


7 Serena Williams' Wimbledon Comeback Victory (2012)


After struggling with injuries and illness, Serena Williams won her fifth Wimbledon singles title, marking an incredible comeback. She later completed a "Golden Slam" by winning Olympic gold on the same courts.


6 John Isner vs. Nicolas Mahut – The Longest Match (2010)


In an astonishing battle lasting 11 hours and 5 minutes, John Isner defeated Nicolas Mahut in a first-round match that stretched across three days. The final set alone lasted eight hours, ending 70-68 in Isner's favour.

5 Martina Navratilova Wins 9th Title (1990)


Martina Navratilova set a Wimbledon record with nine singles titles, cementing her status as one of the greatest players ever. Her dominance on grass remains unmatched. She beat Zina Garrison in the 1990 final, 6–4, 6–1. It would be her 18th and last major singles title overall, tying Chris Evert's Open Era record.


4 Björn Borg vs. John McEnroe – Tiebreak Drama (1980)


The 1980 final featured a legendary fourth-set tiebreak (18-16) where John McEnroe fought off multiple match points. Bjorn Borg eventually won in five sets, in what is often called one of the greatest Wimbledon finals.


3 Pete Sampras' 7th Title (2000)


Sampras won his seventh and final Wimbledon title, breaking Roy Emerson’s Grand Slam record with his 13th major title at the time. His dominance on grass was unrivalled until Roger Federer found his home at SW19.

1 Althea Gibson Breaks Barriers (1957)


Althea Gibson became the first black player to win Wimbledon. In doing so, she paved the way for future tennis players of colour to see tennis as something they could also be successful at.


Only six years before her win, Gibson had become for first black player to compete at SW19. Her historic victory transcended tennis and was a monumental moment in sports history.
