Portugal vs Scotland

Oh Scotland, will you ever find a way of keeping that back door shut?

A late, ludicrous challenge from Grant Hanley gave away all their hard work against Poland the other night and now it’s the very tricky prospect of Portugal away to contend with.

Roberto Martinez has to start all over again with this Portuguese side who played so well in qualifying but who were poor at the Euros.

Portugal won all ten of their Euro 2024 qualifiers, averaging over 3.5 goals per game and I can see them matching that here.

Scotland have lost 3-1 to England, 4-1 to France and 4-0 to the Netherlands in friendlies in the last 12 months and we all saw what Germany did to them in the summer. Portugal can do the same here. Scotland can grab a goal – and you wouldn’t bet against Scott McTominay to get it based on his international scoring exploits this year, but Sunday's betting preview starts with Portugal and over 3.5 goals for me.

Spain v Switzerland

An oddly-goalless opening match for Spain on Thursday against Serbia should mean they’re up for a tie with Switzerland, who are without both Nico Elvedi and Granit Xhaka who were sent off against Denmark.

They lost that game and will be weaker against the Spanish, who I’m backing to win a high-scoring match. Both to score has landed in five of Switzerland’s last seven games, and four of Spain’s last five.

Spain and both teams to score goes into the list.

Gibraltar vs Liechtenstein

Lower down the leagues there’s the intriguing question of, "how do you bounce back from losing to San Marino?" for Liechtenstein. Well, probably by losing to a Gibraltar side who beat Andorra and who got a draw with Wales in the summer.

Denmark vs Serbia

Denmark had to wait to beat Switzerland 2-0 with the help of a couple of red cards but they could be helped by more cards as they face Serbia who have strikers Dusan Vlahovic and Aleksandar Mitrovic unavailable.

Denmark to beat Serbia is 3/4

Gibraltar to beat Liechtenstein is 21/20

Portugal to beat Scotland plus over 3.5 goals is 15/8

Spain to beat Switzerland and both teams to score is 16/5

That’s a 4-timer of 42/1
