West Ham will be hoping their rather unexpected 1-0 win at Arsenal last weekend is a major turning point in Graham Potter’s tenure as manager. They had been on a winless streak of four matches, taking just one point, but the shock in North London has steered them to 13 points clear of the drop zone and they should be safe despite being in 16th spot. A win on Thursday and the relegation nerves will be all but mathematically gone.
In Leicester’s favour, they won the reverse fixture 3-1 in December in Ruud van Nistelrooy’s first match in the dugout. Also, the Hammers have also lost seven at home this season. But that’s where the good news for the Foxes finishes.
Against Leicester is that they have only picked up four points in 12 matches since that win. They were battered by Brentford 4-0 last Friday in a match that could easily have been more embarrassing score-wise. Their defence is leaking goals left, right and centre and confidence appears through the floor. And they are in a bottom three alongside Ipswich Town and rock bottom Southampton that have been cast adrift at the bottom.
This match could be a chance for West Ham to stretch their legs a bit more than in the last few months. Leicester’s defence is a shambles and this is a home win surely.
