The 245th Merseyside Derby will be the last played at Goodison Park comes after both Everton and Liverpool were dumped out of the FA Cup by Bournemouth and surprisingly Plymouth respectively.

James Buttler previews Everton vs Liverpool on Wednesday evening in the Premier League and finds a tempting 4/1 shot.

Both Everton and Liverpool have won their last three Premier League matches, in the Toffees case to quieten relegation chatter and in the Reds to strengthen their position at the top of the table. And this derby hasn’t always gone with league position with Everton winning this fixture 2-0 last season and the previous one ending 0-0.

It would be a brave or daft punter that currently backs against high-flying Liverpool, but this is a fixture to step away from the usual obvious plays. And the price on a win for Arne Slot’s side is not big enough for me at around 4/9.

One thing that is certain – it will be a hotly contested match. That leads me to the cards markets. The 23 red cards in Merseyside derbies is a record for a Premier League fixture and referee Michael Oliver is likely to have a busy Wednesday evening. He’s been reasonable with his yellow card count this season, but did give out two red cards only two Premier League matches ago in Wolves v Arsenal and he could easily raise that colour card again this week.

A red card to be shown in the Merseyside derby is 4/1 with Bet365.
